Early on in my Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 playthrough, I had to make a huge decision: should I install the brain implant that lets me trigger bullet time whenever I want if it means my hacking days are over?

It’s the give-and-take of Cyberpunk’s revamped cyberware system. While your arms, spine, and legs can hold multiple mods at once, you can only have one operating system, and by default, that OS is a cyberdeck that enables quickhacking on enemies and the environment. There are two similarly powerful alternatives to the cyberdeck that give you a huge edge in combat at the cost of hacking: the Sandevistan, which slows down time only for you, and Berserks, implants that makes you temporarily unkillable but limit you to melee weapons.

EVE Online studio CCP Games has announced that it is working on a new triple-A game set in the EVE universe, and I am very sorry to say that it is a blockchain game.

Hades 2 is already well worth playing in early access, but it’s still a game we should expect to change a ton as more features get added and player feedback keeps rolling in. Just over a week after the game’s early access launch, we now have our first patch, and it’s a big one.

Hades 2 places a big emphasis on gathering resources during each run in order to unlock new features and conversations back at The Crossroads⁠—you don’t just get useful stuff as combat rewards or at merchants anymore. Right at launch, you had to equip the appropriate gathering tool to see its respective resource on a run, meaning that you could only acquire one type of resource on any given run. That’s a bit of a drag when you’re just starting out in the game and practically everything …

Helldivers 2 fans (a demographic that encompasses 68% of the planet so far as I can tell) are feeling the spirit of Big Boss. Specifically, they’ve noticed that the game’s movement and more than a few of its animations bear a striking resemblance to 2014’s Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and its follow-up The Phantom Pain. And you know what? They couldn’t be happier about it.

Originally highlighted in a TikTok video from AnthonyCSN, the similarities between the movement animations in Helldivers 2 and MGS5 are impossible to ignore when you put the games side-by-side. From sprinting, to crouch-walking, to diving—there’s a bit of Kojima in every step you take as you spread Managed Democracy throughout the cosmos. 

Upcoming game Pools looks similar to other games based on “The Backrooms,” the creepypasta notion that you can noclip out of normal reality and into mazes of “liminal spaces” that resemble ’90s office buildings or unused meeting rooms at a Marriott. In this case, though, we’re trapped in a pocket dimension of pools.

Since I first wrote about the demo for cosmic horror adventure game Desolatium all the way back in January 2022, I’ve been hired full time by PC Gamer, gotten Covid, adopted a dog, and traveled out of the country three times. You know what hasn’t changed? Desolatium still looks rad as hell. The Lovecraftian (literally set in the Cthulhu Mythos) point and click is finally available on Steam for a launch sale price of $13.
